Hello Minds Matter Chicago Community,
I am honored to welcome you to a new program year filled with opportunity, growth, and impact. This year marks not only a continuation of our mission but also a renewal of our shared commitment to the students, families, and volunteers who make our community so extraordinary.
As a first-generation college student from the South Side of Chicago, I know firsthand how powerful a supportive community can be. For nearly 20 years, Minds Matter Chicago has been that community—a place where young people are nurtured, encouraged, and empowered to thrive. I am proud to continue that legacy and deeply inspired by what lies ahead.
This year is especially meaningful because we are welcoming the largest collective student class in Minds Matter Chicago’s history. With an inspiring group of 26 new sophomore students joining our continuing juniors and seniors, our community is stronger and more vibrant than ever. These students represent ten high schools and twenty-two neighborhoods across the city, each bringing their own story, talent, and vision for the future. Together with their mentors, they are embarking on a journey that will open doors to new possibilities and strengthen their confidence in what they can achieve.
We are also excited to welcome new volunteers who bring diverse professional backgrounds, life experiences, and passions to our growing Minds Matter family. Their energy and commitment fuel the transformative work we get to do every day.
Last year, every one of our graduating seniors was accepted into a four-year college, with more than 85% committing to institutions ranked among the top 150 in the nation. Their success reminds us of what’s possible when community, hard work, and opportunity come together. We can’t wait to share more updates about their college journeys in the months ahead.
This year, we are proud to continue our partnership with Roosevelt University as our program host site. Their support provides our students with the space, resources, and experience of a true college environment — an important reminder of the goal we are all working toward.
Our year is already off to an exciting start. Our juniors and seniors recently attended the NACAC College Fair in September, meeting representatives from universities all over the world and beginning to shape their college lists for the year ahead. Throughout the year, students will engage in campus visits, cultural experiences, career networking, and team-building opportunities designed to help them expand their personal, academic, and social horizons.
We believe in fostering our students’ growth holistically—mind, heart, and spirit. And we can only do that because of the continued support of people like you. There are several ways to get involved:
· Spread the word in-person and online about Minds Matter Chicago and the incredible students and volunteers in our community.
· Volunteer as a mentor or in another role that aligns with your expertise and passion.
· Donate through our website to directly support student programming and enrichment opportunities.
We also invite you to join us for our second annual Homecoming 5K on October 25 at 9 a.m. at Montrose Harbor Grove 16. Whether you walk, jog, or cheer from the sidelines, your presence helps support our mission.
Thank you for the opportunity to lead and to continue the powerful legacy of Minds Matter Chicago. We look forward to sharing updates and celebrating milestones with you throughout the year. Together, we will continue to help Chicago’s bright young minds realize their full potential.
